| For me English is just an expression that is delivered through words, to be specific English is simply being able to show your knowledge through writing it in the American way or through speaking. Speaking the English Language is not that hard the problem is your Accent; Accent is a manner of pronunciation, liaisons and blending your spoken English. Pronunciation is the easiest part of an Accent however you need to apply the other parts of an Accent to make your pronunciation almost perfect but not robotic. Liaisons is the co-operation of one word to another or even more its all based on your sentence which you have to find a way to make the words cooperate with each other. Blending is a big part of American English - Spoiler:
(Example of Blending) I wan-cha. I wan-ja. I wan-ya
Well obviously its I want you, the point here is you have to learn the Blending Rules like the given example above, which is t+y=ch/j/y through blending you can easily enhance your spoken English. Without blending native speakers won't understand you that much, but if you apply blending in your sentences while you are talking to them they will easily understand you and might even think that you are a Native Speaker. That's for the Accent. Written English the biggest part of English The Written English is the top priority, because if you really want to learn how to speak English you need to enhance your Written English Skills. Written English Skills contains grammar, contraction, liaisons, proper capitalization, parts of speech, idioms etc etc. As a conclusion English is based on how you really want to learn or understand it whether you are an American or not, its all based on how interested you are in learning it and adapting it. Thats all for the short summary |

lol...... why would you ever suggest for someone to speak like that >< i harshly disagree with your comment there, while both are understandable to a native speaker if you blend like that you just seem uneducated or ignorant |

American Accent Training is the key for your misunderstanding of my ideas and knowledge about English. |

| I see what you mean about blending, but you have to take it to the right level (the swedish word "lagom" would fit great here, meaning "not to much not to little"). If you use it to much, you will look like an idiot. But if you doesn't use it at all, people will think that you're not a native speaker. But there is very easy to use it to much. If you try to say it as you wrote ("I wan-cha") then you will automaticly overuse it. You must say "I want you", and then add the american blending thing to it. This has a little to do with language, and more to do with how the human mind works.
But in the US there's not so hard to make people believe that you are a native speaker, since, let's just face it, americans are stupid. Not all, but most. Fact.
Wait, what am I doing in a discussion about english? You can probably find 20 faults in this text *runs away and hide behind meg* |

| who says english is for natives rob , we can shit over it too and by shitting ofcourse i have some evidence - Spoiler:
Let's face it English is a not good language. There is no egg in the eggplant No ham in the hamburger And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple. English muffins were not invented in England French fries were not invented in France.
We sometimes take English for granted But if we examine its paradoxes we find that Quicksand takes you down slowly Boxing rings are square And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
If writers write, how come fingers don't fing. If the plural of tooth is teeth Shouldn't the plural of phone booth be phone beeth If the teacher taught, Why didn't the preacher praught.
If a vegetarian eats vegetables What the heck does a humanitarian eat!? Why do people recite at a play Yet play at a recital? Park on driveways and Drive on parkways
You have to marvel at the unique lunacy Of a language where a house can burn up as It burns down And in which you fill in a form By filling it out And a bell is only heard once it goes!
English was invented by people, not computers And it reflects the creativity of the human race (Which of course isn't a race at all)
That is why When the stars are out they are visible But when the lights are out they are invisible And why it is that when I wind up my watch It starts But when I wind up this observation, It ends.

| i agree with baj and loki
especially " English was invented by people, not computers And it reflects the creativity of the human race"
accents are the same way, i have trouble understanding German and Japanese spoken by natives because of how they blend their words. but in anime and drama cds people enunciate clearly. is that to say they aren't talking like natives.. ?
blending (or 'slurring' may be more appropriate actually... ) is how you learn to talk around people who already know what you're saying from context.. words are hardly necessary except to provide the details your gestures leave out.
in no way does it make you better at a language to be able to slur all your words together, written or spoken.
just sayin'
P.S. if you catch me in the cb i'll slur the crap out of my sentences for speed or to convey emotion.. doesn't make me better at English tho o.o |

| I agree with both sides here. Accent is a big thing where I live 'cause we speak French but not like the French from France. In fact, they sometime have a fucked up time trying to understand us, but we understand them easily...
Accent is a pronunciation thing. I can easily speak French with a French, German, Asian, English and Hispanic accent. Same with English... Just saying the same words differently, with a different tempo and sounding. It's like playing a musical instrument. You need to blend in the same "chord" as the others if you want to harmonize with them.
But that doesn't mean that you fuck up the language in order to do so. English is diminished enough already. It used to be an awesome language now its just thinned out. |
