Applying for either or both proofreader & typesetter positions!

I have some experience proofreading for a scanlation group as well as typesetting manga, though mostly for practice last year. I've never redrawn anything, but I could learn. I'm mainly interested in Hokenshitsu no Shinigami since that's how I found out about this group. I'd love to speed up the process of releases quickly, both for myself and for others.

If this helps, I have Photoshop CS2 and have downloaded some typesetting fonts.

basic font is Wild Words , all thoughts are in gray color we use #5d5d5d

for page 1 you have to use atleast 4 different fonts (its up to you to decide which ones goes where) and do a little redraw in 3rd panel
page 2 only 1 font is needed but there are redraws needed
page 3-13 are pretty standard page with lots of typesetting to do on places , and some redraws again , that you should learn how to do on your own , cuz it mostly depends on you , since i wont be there to move your mouse left and right
ofcourse i dont expect perfect work , but a job well done atleast , not crap over the pages

Great work! I believe you are good enough to join us. I'll let loki do his own review since he's more into TSing than me... but what I can say. Some people would prefer some smaller font in some bubble. But I like your style. The way you emphasize some bubbles makes the reading more interesting to me, but usually we try to look at the raw and bold the same bubbles they did. Most redraws were good enough, except maybe the one on page 8 which must have been hard on you ^^. This one is the real redrawing test. Patterned gray cloning is a bitch. But if that is the only thing we have to train you on (believe me, lots of peeps need to train at that even here XD) we'll do that.

The fonts I used for the first page were Wild Words, augie, VNI-HLThuphap, and Big Fish Ensemble. Though on the second thought, I should have continued the second-to-last font in the last bubble. :I

Ryuusuke needs to be centered better (also is it gray because it is giving me the feeling of being black-ish)
the font you used for shout bubbles is really good , but not really in place it would have been better placed at the other bubbles that are kind play-ish looking

i normally use for shouts either Yikes or Wild Words bold+italic
for thoughts i use Wild Words italic + color #5d5d5d

2:
sfx of the valkyrie are placed in 2 bubbles , never typesett text of 2 bubbles as it was one , like here
besides that you have done excellent job with this page , except just dont use such a big space bettwen rows , it looks kinda ugly and it wont help when you have to input alot of text in small bubble

3:
the intro text should be in different font when it isnt in bubble for psyren we normally use zerogene
thats it for this page , except for the big space between rows again and always remove that text in the borders

4:
2nd bubble needs more centering , besides that there are no problems with the page

5:
no problem here

6:
centering problems on 2nd and 4th bubble's

7:
5th bubble needs better centering

8:
if i am not mistaken here you first cloned over the japanese text and then typesetted the translation , if that is the case its a mistake , put the english text over the japanese and clone around it , also use the blending tool if you are good with it , it is too obvious where you cloned ; use bigger and different fonts for this kind of finishing words , to look more grand-ish

9:
3rd bubble , no point in that big size

10:
no problem with typesetting , just that you tend to use bigger font size to fill the bubble and it doesnt always look pretty

11:
3rd bubble and last bubble need to be centered a bit better

12:
nothing here to comment on

13:
outro text always in different font , normally the same as the intro text
trance bubbles always in gray color(#5d5d5d)

thats pretty much it , but let meg say a few words first too , before deciding the future

Ryuusuke is gray, but I guess that doesn't show up very well... (or maybe I put in a darker gray?) I'll keep the font size and spacing in mind!

And, what do you mean by "better centering"?

I've got a couple comments too:

Page 8, you made the text vertical. This is extremely hard to read for English speakers. I know other groups do it, but I would strongly recommend against it. Just use normal horizontal font.

Page 10, first bubble. The "...I" looks like a larger font size than the "knew it." part. Font size should always be consistent. The only reason you should change it is to fit lots of text into a bubble. You don't need to make a font bigger to fill up a bubble. It's okay to have white space (I tried filling up bubbles too, when I first started TSing).

And centering means your text might bee a little high or low in the bubble or slightly off center (right or left). It can be very minor sometimes, but you still should take care of it.

Other than those two things your TSing looks great to me.

The "...I" part probably looks bigger because it's capitalized in Wild Words. Should I have not capitalized the speech?

Oh, so that's what Loki meant by better centering! I guess I'll get better at centering with more practice~

I actaully think that his capitalized wild words are bigger than the normal. It's kind of annoying though, all letters should be the same size. I think you have some king of special wild words to be true ^^

Wild Words is an 'all caps' font. Capitalizing a letter shouldn't make a difference.

wild words do have all caps thingy , but it doesnt bring any change in size since its a capitalized font to begin with , it just straightens out the letters and bolds them a tiny bit

Then, I should make all the Wild Words "lowercase"? I got Wild Words from this source.

Maybe that happens cuz you are typing with CC Wild Words instead of Wild Words (without the CC).

So the font you are using is indeed a different one xD

if you have the cc , there is no way to not have the normal one , cuz its in the same font pack jam gave , its at the bottom right after wild and crazy
