Control over fire would be totally awesome for me ^^ And even more if the fire could actually morph into "tangible" things, like a sword or an armor. That way you could not only burn your enemies to a crisp, but you could also get fully equipped for a battle with just your powers :3

i would go with air , cuz its complex in its own way and if you can create air you can travel to other planets more

kiba, you're idea of 'solidifying' objects also requires some other stuff involved for my story though =P
in this case, if you wanted to 'solidify' fire into a sword, you would also require the earth element to make it sturdy and solid, which is a characteristic not native to a normal fire element =P

and for loki:
i've also got the idea of travel in the story as well x)
my take on it is that air represents 'freedom' and 'movement' as well as its plain old physical (or not physical?) self.

and for tifa:
I actually do have an element along those line xD
my "+2" elements are a personal take on the whole 'light and dark' elements.
but in my world they are referred to as 'creation' and 'destruction'

Haha, indeed However, what about if it is like uber-condensed energy? That way the fire could morph into a sword, having its destructiveness pumped up but without being something "physical" (it would be like an energy sword made of pure fire).

The blade would be (giving a lame example) like the light-sabers from Star Wars: energy that can either be used to attack and/or block attacks.

I'd probably pick aerotenisis. However that's spelled ^^ Control over air anyhow. Because then I could fly. And it's also like a little bit of teleskenisis.

lol, k, my takes on what you guys said:

kiba's intenso fire morphing:
still requires the metaphorical "solid" quality of earth. if one has proper training and can control their energy output at will and can vary the solidity of the element in question, even creating situations where you could make the sword pass through someones parried sword/weapon and solidify fast enough to cut the person =P
you could also have a "semi solid" shield (though fire would probably be bad element of choice for a shield) where it could semi absorb a weapon and cause it to get stuck in your shield, rendering your opponent weaponless ^^~

Tifa's warping:
Air + either creation or destruction.
Either you "cut" a piece of space and move them apart to create a portal, or you "create" a connection/tunnel of sorts between the two spaces.

Energy absorption:
hmm... haven't actually thought about that one much. probably a combination of properly used creation and destruction together, as well as having some attribute in order to control the energy it is that you're trying to absorb. while averting/stopping/stalling energy in this way isn't /too/ hard, to 'absorb' it would be a very hard thing to master

Shadows:
Hmm... not sure actually. probably almost a pure destruction because shadows 'destroy light'
probably also have some type of 'air' quality. though actually i could see 'fire' being a decent element because shadows are created by the destruction of fire/suns/electricities light.

Electricity: (cause i just mentioned it)
most basic of cases = fire and creation. added elements of air or destruction can complement it.

Physics:
cant remember what type of physic power telekenisis this is, but almost all 'mind/thought' based powers are 'air'.
though its split up into things like: if you only have 'creation' you can only converse thoughts, while if you had destruction you could erase memories, or even change them if you could use destruction and creation at the same time.
haven't thought about this one too thoroughly though.

Side effect of taking full science courses from middle school up to now which equals to 10 years of physics, chemistry and biology or more. ^^;

But think of it. Freezing, electricity and fire are all energy transfers. Get control over that and you can induce either on anyone standing in front of you. Which could lead to some interesting results.
