| Hey guys, After being a leecher for a year or so I've decided that i would like to use my latent, constantly developing skills in photoshop to give back to the community. I am a dedicated reader of manga and after going through psyren i saw this group and figured i could give it a go. I know my way around cs5 pretty well and have done some cleans and typsets for my own fun. I have also written a few of my own short mangas with my rediculously ametuerish art, also for my own satisfaction. I would be more than happy to do any job in the process, or even multiple jobs if required. However, i am going into my final year of high school, so deadlines will have to be at a weeks notice at least. Cheers btw, I live in Australia, hope you dont mind! |

| Another aussie,
Welcome to Muda my friend. First thing i must let you know we are. we dont have dead lines. ^_^. Being a scanalator is a hobby, and RL (Real Life) should always com first (except when it gets boring lol). Also we are in desperate need of typesetters, and would appreciate any help we can get. How would you feel about that? ^_^ |

| well considering that RL trends towards boring more often than not, that sounds great, ideal infact!
I'll gladly do typsetting, or any other job for that matter! |

| Not your fault, Rob. ^^
If I could make a giant neon sign that flashed every time I made an important thread, I'd post it on the front page. It would be one of those really annoying ones that you had to click on if you wanted it to go away. XD |

| Ok, so here is my review: Cleaning:OP page: The blacks are not burned and the page is a bit underleveled (see how the whites are not fully white). Also, you forgot to resize the page. HnS page: The blacks weren't burned and the page is way underleveled xD Also, you forgot to resize this one too. Psyren page: Pretty much all the mistakes that I mentioned before were repeated on this page too The blacks weren't burned, the page is way too underleveled, and you also forgot to resize. Redrawing tests: Blood page:You didn't erase the gutter shadow, and I can clearly see where you have redrawed and were you didn't D: You have to be careful when using the pencil tool; everything must end symetrical (like there was no redraw there to begin with). And again, you forgot to resize xD The other page whichs name I can't rememberPractically the best page among all the ones you submitted. I would be a little more careful when cloning that dotty pattern (since I can still see where you redrawed); but still, it's somewhat good. ------ Conclusion: You need to practise a little more before being able to become a trainee. My suggestions are: take your time while doing the pages (rush is a sworn enemy of scanlation); check that everything is ok (remember, the whites should be fully white and the blacks fully black - try inverting the colors with "Ctrl+I" to see the hidden dust better). Also, don't forget to resize the pages! With the redrawing part, you should always check that the redraws you did are completely imperceptible. That means that I should come here, look at the page and think that there was no redraw there to begin with. Be extremely careful when redrawing, since every detail - even the smallest one - is crucial for a nice and sexy page Re-do all the pages again and then I will check them up. Don't let this dissapoint you; once you get the hang of it, you will become a skilled cleaner! Keep it up! ^^ |

Loki, I would appreciate if you could be a little.... softer when giving feedback. If you are not going to point out his mistakes, then wait for Meg to check up his work. You are not helping him to get better at all this way. --------- Well, now Prop, lets see your new cleaning attempts (since I have already given you feedback about your TSing back in the CB ). Now the pages are certainly better! However, they are still not good enough: OP page: Now it's not underleveled, but overleveled xD When I said that the whites should be totally white and the blacks totally white, I meant that the whites should have no dust and the blacks' color should be 000000 (if you use the drop tool in one of the blacks and it tells you "000001", then it's not totally black ). This doesn't mean that the blacks shouldn't have any dust! Dust will always remain, and you will have to burn it afterwards xD Also, you forgot to resize the page again (the page is like 1800 px. high, and it should be 1300 px.!). HnS page: Again, the page is overleveled, you didn't resize, and some blacks are not burned. Psyren: The main problem with this page wasn't that you overleveled it (in fact you did overlevel it a little ), but that you used way too big denoising values! See how the lineart ended all blurred, we don't want that. We want to erase the dust without damaging the lineart (or at least damaging it as little as possible). Blood page: Again, you didn't erase the gutter shadow (that black stripe in the middle of the page), and the redraws are still very noticeable. However, I want you to concentrate on the actual cleaning process first; we will leave the redrawing training for later. The other page whichs name I can't remember: This one is more obvious when looking where you have redrawed. I liked your previous page more, sorry D: Conclusion: You still need to get familiarized with the leveling process. Remember this when leveling a page: *The first leveling should be in greyscale mode. The black's slider should pass the first little peak and the white's slider should be in the middle of the highest peak. *The second leveling should be in RGB mode (after all, you had to denoise the page before leveling the page for the second time, and you can only denoise with the page in RGB mode). This time you will aim to get the whites and the blacks as white/black as possible (taking into account what I said to you when giving feedback of the OP page). Also, MAKE SURE TO RESIZE THE PAGES! Resizing the pages gives them an antialiasing effect, jamming all the blacks, whites and greys, leaving the page sexier (also, noboby wants to read a 1800 px. page xD). Finally, I would like you to download Topaz Clean (check out our "All the tools you need to become a Muda editor" thread); you will need this software when we advance to the second step of your cleaning training. Again, re-do the pages (only the three from the "cleaner's test"). Take into account all what I have said, and the pages should end neater this time. Give me your best shot! :3 |

| ok well thanks to kiba and abcd, i have readjusted my monitor for the last time, if it doesn't work now then I'm going to have to get a new one, which costs $ so... I'm just going to post the Psyren clean page to check if i am atleast somewhat on track, because I think this is as good as it is going to get, other than removing those 2 really obvious black blotches... In regards to Loki's in depth analysis of my typsetting i noticed that it does infact suck really bad. I've fixed it now, if anyone wants to see it... Btw Rob, it's good to know I'm not wasnt the only one!! how embarassing... - Spoiler:
Sorry I'm being such an inconveinience, but i'm trying my hardest!!! |

| Now this looks alot better ^^ mostly because the whites wasn't underleveld x)
You still need to brun your blacks a bit (there should be no dust left, but be carefull not to burn the grays) and then there's the part with patterns (that is the greys, they are supposted to be patterned). You have a little bit, but most of the grays are almost smudged out. Patterns are really hard (I totally suck at them) but I think lower your t.clean will help some ^^ I leave the rest to someone who knows how to clean x) |

| Thanks for the feedback rob i think with more experience with Tnoise and Tclean i can fix the grey's more, but can you point out exactly where i missed burning? well if thats all thats wrong then I'm very happy indeed! I think I'll redo the other pages now, or tommorow, or now. |

| Ok, this is going to be long and thorough; bear with me. ^^
Small guide: Font size literally means what size your font is in (12pt, 14pt, etc.). If I say go down or up a size, I go by every two so, again, 12pt -> 14pt -> 16pt. Font positioning is whether you correctly centered the font in the middle of the bubble or not. Bubble shape is whether the bubble has the correct diamond pattern.
Also, I go by panels, which are the boxed areas that the bubbles are in.
Page 1:
Overall, I'd say the font is a little too big on this page. Remember, we want 50-70% of the bubble filled, so don't feel as if you need to put font in the entire bubble. (:
Panel 1 - I'd say you're at size 14 or 16 font? Go ahead and go down two size, to about 12 or 14, depending. The positioning of the font is pretty good, though!
Panel 2 - Font size is good, but I'd make your text box a little smaller so the shape of the words is more towards that vague diamond shape.
Panel 3 - First bubble is good; second bubble, go down a size or two in font.
Panel 4 - The first tricky panel! Good job on the two bubbles on the right. Getting all that font in there is the hardest part (which font did you use, btw? I don't know it. XD). As for the two on the right, go down a size in font again for the first one. Second one, make sure your font is always centered. I know it's tempting to change the font to the right or left positioning if the bubbles tricky, but it's best not to. ^^
Panel 5 - Just a tad too small for the bubbles on the right. Go up one size? And for the bubbles on the left, go down one size. XD
Panel 6 - Good job on this panel! Good font size and positioning, as well as the shape. I'm satisfied with this one. (:
Page 2
Panel 1 and 2 - Good size and positioning, but try using the Yellowjacket font for the creepy bubbles.
Panel 3 - Hurray for leaving the punctuation! XD Good job~
Panel 4 - With big bubbles full of nothing but a scream, go ahead and use the Badaboom font. I'd say size 30 font or so. Also, don't be afraid of using the "Enter" key to move words or letters around in a bubble! Say, for example, if you left "GYAAA" on a top row and moved "AAAAA" to the next row for this bubble. For the second bubble, you can either keep using Badaboom or use Wild Words, Bold Italic. The last three bubbles are good~
Page 3
Panel 1 - Ok, first up! A rule we always try to follow - never, ever type font vertically. Always horizontally, like normal. The only way this would be acceptable is if it were a really ridiculous and complicated redraw. But as it's not, go ahead and change this to horizontal font.
Panel 2 - Not bad, good font size. But the shapes need to be a little tighter, so make your text boxes a little smaller and see how that works for you.
Panel 4, 5, and 6 - Good font positioning, but change the font to normal Wild Words. The bubbles aren't really out of wack or in strange shapes so we'll assume she's speaking in a normal tone of voice. (:
Page 4
Panel 1 - First up, first up! GOOD REDRAW. Very nice~ Good font placement as well! I think I used Wild Words in this part when I originally did it, but Yellowjacket's ok for testing, so you can leave it. (:
Panel 5 - Good, but go down a size.
Panel 6 - Good! Nice positioning~
Page 5
Panel 2 - Again, no vertical text, change that. Second bubble, go down a font size. Good font choice and positioning though~
Panel 3 - First bubble is fine, second bubble needs to be center alignment please.
Panel 4 - First bubble could go up a font size. Second bubble is fine~
Panel 5 - Good job on both bubbles! :Db
Page 6
Panel 1 - Eh, first bubble is a tad too big. Go down a size or two. Second bubble, the same.
Panel 2 - Good font size for this bubble, but the shape could be a little smaller. Smaller text box. (:
Panel 3 - Good!
Panel 4 - Good again, but a smaller shape again and go down one font size.
Looking forward to the corrections! (: (I really hope you saved your .PSDs of these. That'll make your life so much easier! ^^) |

| @ itamaesan Thankyou for the feedback!! I'll fix them up right away. I kinda rushed these pages in my enthusiasm, so even by my inexperienced standards it looked completely wrong. As for panels 4,5,6 page 3, i've never read the manga before so i assumed she was possessed or something. How important context is... @rob honestly, its really hard for me to tell the difference, other than that a few loose edges on the hair that got eaten by the burn. was there anywhere else in that panel that actually changed? because if so, even with full zoom and a tilted monitor i cant tell... @abcd no, woops... ---------------------- New pages - Spoiler:
